Abstract:
Vision-based human gesture recognition has been studied for many years, however hand washing gesture recognition suprisingly remains untouched in the research. Strictly applying correct hand washing techniques is one of the most important ways to prevent the spread of infection and illness, especially in healthcare environment. In this thesis, we propose and evaluate a number of vision-based measuring methods as alternatives of laborious human monitoring of hand hygiene. The main goal of our research is to detect and recognize certain hand washing gesture patterns robustly and effectively.
