Abstract:
In section A, two studies were conducted to systematically investigate and compare the cross sectional and longitudinal physiological determinants of the age-related loss of lower extremity muscle power in healthy and mobility-limited older adults (n = 93). Computed tomography was utilised to assess mid-thigh body composition and measures of muscle quality. Surface electromyography was used to assess neuromuscular function and muscle biopsies were taken to evaluate intrinsic single muscle fibre contractile properties.
