Abstract:
This thesis addresses the subject of famine evictions using a diverse range of sources and methodologies. Archival sources such as the files of the Chief Secretary of Ireland's office, registered papers and ejectment books produced by the Irish courts during the nineteenth century, all of which are to be found in the National Archives of Ireland, are explored in this thesis. Furthermore, the study of a total of thirty separate estate papers provide a unique insight into the running of Irish landed estates during the famine.
