Abstract:
This thesis is concerned with mobility and processes of social change. It sets out to prise open the journey experiences of public bike users and to determine what, if anything, is distinctive about public biking compared to other forms of urban mobility. It also seeks to elucidate the nature of the processes or 'ripple effects' associated with embedding a public bike sharing scheme (PBSS) into the physical, social and institutional fabric of a city.
