Abstract:
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are used in environmental monitoring applications to obtain fine-grained spatial and temporal information concerning environmental phenomena. This requires continuous sensing and communication by the sensor nodes, potentiedly draining their energy. As energy is provided to the sensor nodes by batteries or energy harvesting devices, which have a limited capacity, it needs to be conserved to extend the lifetime of the WSN.
