Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to investigate some of the microeconomic effects of the application of direct payments (DPs) to support Irish agriculture.
Chapter 1 outlines the context of direct income support as it is applied in Irish agriculture. We find that direct payments have growing importance for Irish agriculture since the MacSharry reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
