'This artist, although London based for most of his career, worked in Ireland from 1888 and continued to exhibit Irish subjects at the Royal Academy until 1918. He studied in Paris under Jean-Leon Gerome who also taught many Irish artists, such as Aloysius O'Kelly and Thomas Moynan. Bartlett settled for a time in Co. Donegal and exhibited in 1905 and again in 1910 from an island address off the West coast of that sparsely populated county.' (Christie's, 30) This painting is signed and dated by the artist.Role:
