The iconography of the picture is dependent on part of a mural, 'The Victors at Olympia', which Barry painted for the Society of Arts building in the Adelphi about 1780. In describing the 'Victors at Olympia', Barry states that he has presented himself as the Greek artist Timanthes. - From R.R.
