Description:
Our Lady of Dublin: Carved from Irish oak, this Virgin and Child group dates from the fifteenth century and has been attributed to Durer. Originally it was in St. Mary's Abbey and when the Abbey was suppressed and plundered in 1540 the back of the statue received some burns. It was saved and concealed from further damage by being buried head downwards in the yard of a neighboring inn, where its hollow base served as a pig trough for over 150 years.Role:
