Abstract:
Guido is a healthcare robot that serves as support and navigation aid for the
frail and visually impaired. Many robotic technologies are implemented in Guido
to let it achieve its task: Simultaneous Localization and Map Building (SLAM),
pose tracking, path planning, collision avoidance and human robot interaction.
All these components of Guido’s navigation system are described in this work,
as well as recent experiments both in the lab and in a hospital with real end
users, showing the ease of use and convenience of the system, and the
usefulness of the software tools that enable the system to be installed in a new
environment in just minutes.
