Abstract:
This thesis, entitled “Lanthanide-Directed Self-Assembly Formations from Novel Dipicolinic Acid Derivatives” is divided into six chapters. Chapter 1, the introduction, gives an overview of the lanthanide ions including their unique photophysical properties and the strategies employed for ligand design in the development of lanthanide luminescent complexes. Ln'"- directed self-assembly is central to the work described within this thesis and hence the following two sections are devoted to a discussion of those monometallic and multimetallic Ln'"-directed self-assembled systems reported in the literature.
