Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to ask how a freshly conceived and embodied
relationship of the churches to their canon of scripture might give new life, integrity
and depth to the ecumenical movement. I argue for the development, at the heart of
that relationship, of what I am calling a hermeneutics of intrusion, which would have
the strength of offering new and compelling ways for the churches to embody a visible
unity.
