Abstract:
We have demonstrated the integration of supporting lasing at 1.88 ?m for enhancing the gain in a thulium doped
ZBLAN amplifier. The laser ring cavity has been created in order to reduce the bottleneck effect caused by the selfterminating
nature of the amplifying transition. Two different types of fibre geometry and pumping scheme have been
tested and the performance has been compared with a numerical model of the amplifier.
