This is to inform the business and decision making communities among the ASLING audience about the high level benefits of bitext and XLIFF 2. Translator and Engineering communities will also benefit, as they need the high level arguments to make the call for XLIFF 2 adoption in their organizations. We start with a conceptual outline and simple non-technical examples what bitext is, what different sorts of bitext exist and how they are useful at various stages in various industry processes, such as translation, localisation, terminology management, quality and sanity assurance projects etc. Examples of projects NOT based on bitext are given, benefits and drawbacks compared on a practical level of tasks performed. Issues introduced by monolingual editing of content in multilingual content stores will be discussed. The following will be demonstrated: 1) That bitext management is a core process for efficient multilingual content value chains 2) That usage of an open standard bitext creates a greater sum of good than usage of proprietary bitext formats 3) Most timely and challenging requirements of bitext management will be demonstrated 4) Finally it will be demonstrated that XLIFF 2 is the core format and data model to base bitext management on.
