Internment of the Anti-Treaty I.R.A. in the Irish Free State 1922-4

Abstract

This thesis is a study of Anti-Treaty I.R.A. internment during the Irish Civil War, a period of Irish history, which marked a bitter end to the revolutionary years. On the eve of the Truce in July 1921, there were some 6,129 prisoners interned as a result of their activities during the War of Independence. After the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty, on 6 December 1921, the British Government granted these internees a general amnesty.
