An examination of Serotonergic candidate genes in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Abstract

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common, highly heritable childhood disorder. It is characterised by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Heritability of ADHD is estimated to be between 70-90%. The disorder is clinically heterogeneous and the aetiology remains largely unknown. It is widely believed that ADHD is a polygenic disorder with multiple genes of small/moderate effect.
