Abstract
Description
On the back of this painting is a typewritten inscription stating that Thomas Bate is the artist and by comparing this painting to the known Bate painting, a portrait of Lord Coningsby (see image cgjc0976), the attribution is made more plausible. It is one of the earliest known landscapes of an Irish view.(Crookshank & Glin, 31)
