The flora and vegetation of Pitcairn Island : its phytogeography and conservation

Abstract

Good decisions cannot be made about the conservation of nature if we do not know what it is, where it is, and in what abundance. The aim of this thesis was to provide an integrated approach to the conservation of Pitcairn Island, so that educated conservation programmes could be developed in the future for the islands flora and vegetation. In order to achieve this, a step by step approach was taken for this simple island ecosystem, but one that could be expanded to suit larger and more diverse islands.
