    'One of Blackburn?s first patrons in Boston was Isaac Winslow, who commissioned one of the artist?s most ambitious group portraits, 'Isaac Winslow and His Family'. The group portrait was then still uncommon in colonial America; only a few are known to precede this picture. Isaac Winslow was among the wealthiest merchants in Boston. Between 1755 and 1762, Blackburn received commissions for about sixty surviving or documented portraits from patrons who included merchants, governors, military officers, and ministers, although the more austere tastes of the latter were not ideally served by the artist?s rococo palette and compositions.'
