Abstract

This paper uses data from the New Earnings Survey to see if trade unions secure relatively higher wages for those workers covered by collectively bargained agreements. A standard econometric model is used, and our results indicate that a `wage-gap? of around 11 per cent for male workers and 19 per cent for female workers existed in 1973.
