    Panel discussion which took place on 24th March, 2017, at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin, as part of Saluting the Feminists. Video by Edgar Grunewald. Women and Music in Ireland in the 19th and 20th Centuries. Ita Beausang and Laura Watson (Maynooth University) in conversation with Jennifer O’Connor-Madsen (Royal Irish Academy of Music). Saluting the Feminists. The world première of Siobhán Cleary’s opera, Vampirella, affords the Royal Irish Academy of Music an opportunity to celebrate the legacy of some of its female pedagogues and also salute female composers from Ireland. On March 24th the Academy proudly presents a series of fringe events comprising concerts, talks and panel discussions to highlight the extraordinary impact women composers, performers and teachers have had, and continue to have, in Ireland. The day-long celebration culminates in a performance of Cleary’s powerful new opera, written specifically for the talented singers and instrumentalists of the RIAM and funded by an Arts Council Project Award.
