Abstract
This article comprises four mini-cases that explore what an investment professional does in his or her job. The cases are based on interviews with individual subjects, and reveal what each person s job entails, with whom he or she interacts, and the challenges of the job. The cases describe security analysis at Fairview Asset Management; equity management at M&G Investments; fixed income at Athena Asset Management; and hedge funds at Regent Capital LP. Issues to be explored using these cases are the differing roles of asset-management professionals, variation in corporate cultures, the match of lifestyle to personal priorities, and how best to conduct and report on an interview with a finance professional.
