Description

Robert Fagan (1761-1816) Brought up in London and admitted to the Royal Academy in 1781. Established himself as a portraitist of fashionable grand tourists and a dealer in art and antiquities in Italy. (published note regarding subject - Apollo): In 1809 he [Fagan] had painted one of his least satisfactory portraits: Lady Acton and her three children - this was Mary Anne, who at the age of fourteen had married her sixty-three-year-old uncle, Sir John Acton, Prime Minister of Naples.
