Abstract

This contribution continues my earlier notes on the text of Valerius’ Argonautica, and besides individual suggestions, aims likewise to demonstrate that there remains ample scope for further emendation of the poem’s text.1 Here I only propose some sixteen changes in book 5, which, however, should not be taken to imply that the rest of the text is free from unsolved problems. For each passage, I begin by printing a version of the ‘vulgate’, with a concise apparatus; γ is the common ancestor of the surviving complete independent manuscripts (V and L), C is the (mostly) lost codex Carrionis (when its readings are known), ω is their agreement.
