Immagini della Grande Guerra. Usi e riusi dei sacrari militari italiani dal Fascismo alla Repubblica

Abstract

Il saggio analizza i sacrari militari che furono creati dal regime fascista negli anni Trenta per valorizzare la memoria dei soldati caduti nella prima guerra mondiale. In particolare, esamina una serie di immagini (fotografie, cartoline, manifesti, disegni e filmati) che servirono a semantizzare i sacrari sia durante il ventennio che nel dopoguerra. Queste immagini offrono una prospettiva per capire come i sacrari siano stati interpretati, e reinterpretati, dalla loro creazione fino ai giorni nostri. L’obiettivo di questo saggio è di evidenziare il potere delle immagini di plasmare i significati mutevoli dell’architettura.

This paper explores a group of military ossuaries that were created by Italy’s Fascist regime in the 1930s to exploit the memory of soldiers who had died fighting in the First World War. Specifically, it examines an array of images (photographs, postcards, posters, drawings and films), which served to give meaning to the ossuaries both under Fascism and in the post-war period. The images offer a window onto how the ossuaries have been interpreted, and re-interpreted, from their creation until the present day. The goal of this paper is to highlight the power of images in shaping the shifting meanings attached to architecture.

Cet article étudie un groupe d’ossuaires militaires créés par le régime fasciste italien dans les années 1930 afin d’exploiter la mémoire des soldats morts au combat pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. Plus précisément, l’article examine un ensemble d'images (photographies, cartes postales, affiches, dessins et films) qui ont servi à donner un sens aux ossuaires à la fois sous le fascisme et plus tard dans la période d’après-guerre. Les images offrent une fenêtre sur la façon dont les ossuaires ont été interprétés, et réinterprétés, depuis leur création jusqu'à aujourd'hui. L’objectif est de mettre en évidence le pouvoir des images pour façonner les significations changeantes attachées à l’architecture.
