Abstract
This project offers a wide-ranging analysis and comparison of the cultures of print
in Belfast and Baltimore between 1760 and 1825. Each city and its hinterland have been
examined individually and comparatively in order to offer insights into the production,
distribution and consumption of printed works in provincial centres across the Atlantic
world. The study starts in 1760, when both communities were small provincial towns of
relatively little importance.
