Abstract
Clumping factor A is a fibrinogen-binding protein of S. aureus. It is a cell wall associated
protein consisting of an N-terminal ligand-binding region A, an unusual SD dipeptide repeat region, which acts as a stalk to project region A away from the cell surface, and a C-terminal wall-spanning and anchoring domain. It is an important virulence factor in a variety of animal models of infection.
