Abstract:
In this thesis, we explore applications of the conformal bootstrap to holographic CFTs that are dual to theories of gravity in asymptotically Anti-de Sitter spacetimes. In particular, we consider correlation functions with two heavy operators. These are expected to thermalize, looking effectively like black hole backgrounds in the dual theory of gravity. The gravitational interaction between the particles in the bulk and the black hole is related to the exchange of multi-stress tensor operators in the dual CFT. These operators, therefore, play an important role in the understanding of the emergence of gravity in the bulk. In particular, we study the lightcone limit of a heavy-heavy-light-light correlator. From the crossing equations, we obtain the contribution due to minimal-twist multi-stress tensor operators in holographic CFTs in even spacetime dimensions greater than two. The result is reminiscent of theories with higher-spin symmetry in two dimensions which is also explored. Another interesting regime is the Regge limit of the same correlator; it is dual to a highly energetic particle propagating in the black hole background. We study the relation between the Shapiro time delay and angle deflection due to the presence of the black hole, and the CFT data. Lastly, we study the stress tensor two-point function at finite temperature using holography. By solving the perturbatively the equations of motions for metric fluctuations around a black hole background, we find the contribution due to double-stress tensors and, in particular, determine the near-lightcone limit of the correlators. Decomposing the stress tensor two-point function, we infer properties of the stress tensor OPE which plays a central role in the AdS/CFT correspondence.
