Abstract: As I am not aware that the Irish poor law has been directly submitted to the consideration of this society, I would take a hasty glance at its common history and general working throughout the United Kingdom, before alluding to its introduction to this country, and considering what mode more economic than the present might be adopted in levying funds for poor law purposes; in order to impress upon all classes how closely identified are their mutual interests, and by encouraging the good agriculturist, so raise up and increase the demand for labour, as to improve the condition of the labourer.
