Abstract:
This paper calls attention to the paucity of knowledge and statistical data on the activities of Irish farm wives. The richest sources of information are the anthropological and sociological studies of Irish rural life which began in the 1930s. A critical review of these is undertaken. The limited gender analysis provided by these studies are identified and discussed.
