'This drawing is a worked-up sketch of a lost original drawn by Angelo Maria Bigari (fl. 1772-1779) in early July, 1779. He was accompanied by fellow-artist Gabriel Beranger (ca. 1730-1817) who drew the plan and window details of the abbey (see 2122 TX (88)) (see image cgjc1120). View of the Third Order Franciscan friary of Court, County Sligo, Ireland, founded around 1449. The view looks through the arch of the tower to the east window, and a large arch on the right leads into the south aisle. A single figure (probably Beranger) walks across the foreground from left to right, among a few standing tombstones, one in the shape of a cross. Bigari & Beranger travelled to Connacht under the commission of William Burton, President of the Hibernian Antiquarian Society . Beranger kept notes of the places visited by himself and Bigari (See Ms 4162, pages 13-14 for his notes on the Abbey of Court, County Sligo, Ireland).
