'An engraving based on this drawing is found in Vol. I of Francis Grose's Antiquities of Ireland (London, 1791) as Pl. 27. The original sketch would have been done on July 29th, 1779, when Bigari was on a tour of Connacht with his artist friend, Gabriel Beranger (ca. 1730-1817), who made a note of this visit in his catalogue notes (see NLI Ms 4162, page 24). The drawing depicts a view of the Dominican priory in the town of Athenry, County Galway, Ireland, seen from the north-east, showing the two fine fifteenth century reticulated windows and the tall tower. Two figures stand in the foreground.' (www.nli.ie)Culture:
