This painting is signed and dated by the artist. Major-General Charles George Gordon, CB (28 January 1833 ? 26 January 1885), was a British army officer and administrator. He is remembered for his campaigns in China and northern Africa. In 1888 a statue of Gordon by Hamo Thornycroft was erected in Trafalgar Square, London, removed in 1943 and in 1953 moved to the Victoria Embankment.Role:
