'This drawing is a copy after Michelangelo's celbrated figure of Adam in 'The Creation of Man' in the Sistine Chapel. Although this is an early work, there is nothing tentitive about its execution. It is an elegant study drawn with firm, precise outlines. Because Barry relies heavily on line rather than subtle gradations in tone, his modelling of the figure is more schematic than Michelangelo's. It is also interesting to see him employing soft, parallel hatching at such an early date, a technique that he was to use more extensively and forcibly in later years.' (Pressly, 61-2)Role:
