Abstract:
The project is an interdisciplinary investigation of Victorian domestic
architecture in Dublin, within the broader context of the nineteenth-century city. The
study is centred on the developments and acquisitions of three prominent developers:
Michael Meade, William Carvill and John Crosthwaite. Amongst their extensive list of
works they executed schemes of grand semi-detached Victorian residences in some of
the most imposing streets of the south Dublin suburbs. The houses which they
developed around their homes provide focus for the examination of the planning,
design, execution and consumption of these prolific building forms in Dublin.
