Abstract:
A communication made to this Society a year or two ago
by Mr. R. J. P. Mortished on Labour Organisations in Ireland
suggested to me that it would be informative if various members
were induced to contribute to our proceedings accounts
of the several professions or occupations which serve the
public, surveying their special functions and their relations to
the community. In undertaking a brief survey of this kind as
regards the medical profession I hope that other members may
be persuaded to give us accounts of other vocations. In particular,
a study of how the legal profession or how the Civil
Service is related to the community would be of value.
