Edith OEnone Somerville (1858-1949) writer, artist, farmer, suffragist and Master of the West Carbery Hunt was educated and spent most of her life in the family home at Drishane, west Cork. She had intended to become an artist, and had some training in Paris and London. In 1886 she met her cousin, the journalist Violet Martin (`Martin Ross?) and together, writing as Somerville and Ross, they became Ireland?s best known comic writers. The `Experiences of an Irish R.M? books were made into a television series in the late twentieth century. <br> <br> The Somerville and Ross collection in Trinity College Library Dublin includes manuscript drafts and fair copies of the published works, illustrations, correspondence, notebooks and records of the West Carbery Hunt. There are other manuscript collections in Drishane and in Queen?s University Belfast.
