Neither Here nor There: Liminal Space in Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising Sequence
Download Item:

Abstract:
This project is concerned with the relationship between Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising Sequence and older texts which explore the idea of the border between the world of consensual reality and that of magic and fantasty. In particular it explores those texts which draw upon the idea of the boundary-walker, the "mearcstapa" of Old English literature. This rich mythopoeic tradition forms a textual hinterland from which Cooper's novels emerge.
