Abstract:
Chiral smectic liquid crystals have a paraelectric phase, a ferroelectric phase, and an antiferroelectric phase.
Therefore, multiple phases called secondary phases appear, and sequential phase transitions are observed. Long-period structures in disordered systems such as liquid crystals.
The elucidation of the long-range force that causes the subphase of structure is of interest as a matter of condensed matter physics. Resonant scattering has played a decisive role in elucidating the structure.
The structural analysis of the secondary phase by resonant X-ray scattering is explained, and the discrete flexoelectric effect is considered as a long-range force.
