Abstract:
The work presented in this thesis describes a comprehensive analysis of the YycFG two-com
ponent system (TCS) in Bacillus subtilis. TCSs are widespread mechanisms used by
bacteria to sense and respond to the prevailing environmental conditions. YycFG is the only
essential TCS encoded in the B. subtilis genome, but the nature of its essentiality has not been
established. In addition, its regulon is poorly defined.
