Description:
Little is known of the present artist. An entry in Strickland's Dictionary of Irish Artists mentions R. Gibbs as a portrait painter living in Patrick Street, Cork in 1810. Gibbs could also be associated with the Scottish painter Robert Gibb. The present painting represents the artist's skill in dramatic composition. It is a rare example and is signed and dated.
