Born in Holywell, Co. Sligo, Gethin hailed from a deeply rooted Co. Sligo family. He later exhibited at Hugh Lane?s 1904 exhibition of Irish art at the Guildhall in London and subsequently in a series of shows in Dublin. He is best known for his watercolors, drawings, etchings and also some decorative murals and frieze designs. The present panel is one of four panels illustrating Yeats' 'Lake Isle of Inisfree'.
