dc.descriptionJohn Faulkner RHA (1835-1894) Studied at the Royal Dublin Society's School from 1848 and commenced exhibiting at the RHA in 1852. Left Ireland in 1870 "under circumstances which brought about his removal from membership of the Academy" (Strickland, Vol. II, p.340), but returned to exhibiting at the RHA in 1880, continuing to do so until 1887. (Whyte's) This picture is of a view in the Liffey Valley, looking south across the river from the Strawberry Beds road into the great estates of The Hermitage, Woodville and St. Edmunsbury. The view was painted from the Luttrelstown Desmesne which was known as 'Woodlands'.en
