Robert Fagan (1761-1816) Brought up in London and admitted to the Royal Academy in 1781. Established himself as a portraitist of fashionable grand tourists and a dealer in art and antiquities in Italy. (published note in regards to the subject - Sotheby's): The sitter was the daughter of George Manley and his wife Donna Anna Maria Barberini. Her father died in Rome in 1793. Her brother George served in the Austrian army and was Adjutant-General of the Papal troops. Provenance: By descent from the sitter to Francis Hubert Manley (1872-1950); Maria Manley, his daughter, who married Humphrey Walmesley, and thence by descent to the present owner.Role:
