dc.description'In 1786 Barry was requested by Alderman John Boydell to submit work for the gallery which he had recently established, with the intention of displaying works of British artists based on Shakespearian themes. Barry submitted two works to Boydell: 'King Lear Weeping over the Body of Cordelia and the depiction of 'Iachimo emerging from the Chest in Imogen's Chamber' from the play Cymbeline. This is a highly finished sketch which may have been used either as a preliminary study for the large version, now in the collection of the Royal Dublin Society, or as a preliminary study for an engraving produced subsequently. The subject is from Shakespeare's play 'Cymbeline'. The trunk scene of 'Cymbeline'(Act II, Scene II) provided Barry with an opportunity to illustrate Burke's ideas on the Sublime and Beautiful.'(NGI, 76)en
